A good way to think about this is to combine learning, visibility, and real collaboration, instead of treating them separately. For collaboration, GitHub is still the main hub, but don’t just search “ML projects”. Look for repos with labels like good first issue, help wanted, or active discussions. Libraries and tooling around data (PyTorch Lightning, Hugging Face datasets, scikit-learn docs, OpenCV contrib) tend to be more welcoming than pure research repos. For communities, places with ongoing work matter more than big forums. Kaggle is useful not just for competitions but for shared notebooks and discussions. Discord/Slack groups around PyTorch, Hugging Face, or specific CV topics are where small collaborations actually start. A practical path that works for many freshers: The key is consistency and public work — once people can see what you build, collaboration follows naturally. |

Thanks! I’m not part of any single formal community I’d point to as the place — I’ve mostly learned by following specific projects, discussions, and maintainers rather than joining one big group. That said, a few spaces I’ve found consistently valuable: GitHub repos with active issues/discussions (especially tooling and infra projects) Smaller Discord/Slack groups around specific stacks rather than broad “ML/Dev” servers Kaggle discussions and shared notebooks for practical, feedback-driven learning What’s worked best for me is staying close to real projects and conversations instead of spreading attention across too many communities. Out of curiosity, are there any communities you’ve personally found especially helpful? |

to be honest, i have just started with networking and collaboration and im myself looking for such communities. I did look for communities about ai and other specific stacks, but most of them are inactive. Recently i also joined my college alumni network, so hoping to get some help from there too |

Well you’re honestly thinking in the right direction already. A lot of people start in analytics or non ML roles and slowly move into ML/DL by building things on the side. Here are some places that really helped me (and many others) :
For communities:
My biggest advice would be, don’t wait for the “perfect role.” Build small projects, push them to GitHub, write clean READMEs, and slowly level up. A lot of people transition into ML this exact way. |

For a lot of image enhancement tasks (sharpening, contrast, basic de-noising), classical image processing kernels can give decent results. I’m curious how do envision AI based part adding the most value in your pipeline. For example:

I’m currently working as a Data Analyst Trainee, but I’m actively transitioning toward Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Computer Vision. Since my role is analytics-focused, I’m building projects and contributing outside work. I found some repos too, but most of them have not replied yet to my enquiry for contributions. As for Hugging Face and OpenMMLab, I'll definitely have a go with them this week |

Hello everyonee!
I’m a computer science fresher, placed on-campus as a data analyst trainee. But my real interests are in computer vision, deep learning, and other modern AI technologies. Unfortunately, my current job mostly involves basic statistical analytics, so I’m looking to actively build projects and collaborate outside of work.
I want to improve my skills, contribute to open-source projects, and connect with others who are also passionate about ML/DL. Could anyone recommend good platforms, communities, or open-source projects where I can learn, collaborate, and work on real ML projects?
